BALTIMORE TREE TRUST (501c3) BRAVES LARGEST PROJECT SINCE INCEPTION BY PLANTING OVER 140 TREES IN FIRST PHASE OF YARD 56 IN EAST BALTIMORE
The Baltimore Tree Trust partners with MCB Real Estate, Prudential Impact Investments and Chesapeake Contracting Group to test pilot workforce development program hiring 10 Baltimore residents
Baltimore, MD The Baltimore Tree Trust (BTT) faced their largest and most intricate assignment when they agreed to fulfill the tree planting needs at the new mixed-use Yard 56 development in East Baltimore. The 501c3 organization, was tasked with planting over 140 trees as they faced wintry conditions late in 2019.
While much of Baltimore Tree Trust’s work focuses on restoring Baltimore’s urban tree canopy, they also know that many capable residents are currently unemployed. BTT’s pilot workforce development program, the Urban Roots Apprenticeship, seeks to connect the dots between city residents and the tree care and landscaping industries.
The Urban Roots Apprenticeship partners with the Center for Urban Families – Strive Program to identify candidates ready for environmental career opportunities by recruiting, training, mentoring and connecting Baltimoreans to successful careers in the tree care and landscape industries.
